Synthesis and Original Contribution
Synthesis and Original Contribution is one of eight AIGW AI Fluency capabilities for responsible AI-enabled work, development, and implementation.
D7 / Capability guide
What it means
Compare, synthesize, interpret, and recommend so the final work adds value beyond generic AI output.
Why it matters in AI-enabled work
AI can generate many plausible options, increasing the value of human synthesis and original contribution. A clear human recommendation helps work support a real choice.
What strong practice looks like
A strong practitioner compares perspectives, adds evidence and judgment, makes a defensible choice, and identifies what they changed, rejected, interpreted, or recommended.
Common failure modes
- Publishing a first draft or summary with little human interpretation.
- Improving wording while leaving the underlying reasoning generic.
- Presenting several options without making the decision or contribution visible.
Development practices
- 1Ask for alternatives, compare them with another source or view, and write your own synthesis.
- 2State explicitly what you added, changed, rejected, interpreted, and recommended.
- 3Invite review of the reasoning and contribution, not only the prose.
Relationship to the assessment
This capability is one dimension in the AIGW AI Fluency & Career Growth Assessment. The assessment offers developmental interpretation based on its current coded responses and scenario evidence; this public guide does not reveal items, answer keys, scoring weights, or private report logic.
