Learning and Capability Transfer
Learning and Capability Transfer is one of eight AIGW AI Fluency capabilities for responsible AI-enabled work, development, and implementation.
D6 / Capability guide
What it means
Build durable understanding that you can recall, reconstruct, transfer, and apply beyond one AI exchange.
Why it matters in AI-enabled work
AI can help someone attempt more work, but capability grows when assistance becomes understanding that can be reused. Without transfer, the same support may be needed for every new task.
What strong practice looks like
A strong practitioner uses AI to accelerate understanding while preserving independent practice, recall, explanation, and application in a different context.
Common failure modes
- Completing work with AI without retaining the method or reasoning.
- Mistaking a successful prompt for a transferable capability.
- Needing the same support again when the task, context, or tool changes.
Development practices
- 1Reconstruct one AI-assisted method from memory and apply it to a different task.
- 2Explain what you learned before asking AI for another answer.
- 3Keep a small evidence portfolio showing independent reuse and adaptation.
Relationship to the assessment
This capability is one dimension in the AIGW AI Fluency & Career Growth Assessment. The assessment offers developmental interpretation based on its current coded responses and scenario evidence; this public guide does not reveal items, answer keys, scoring weights, or private report logic.
